The Shin Bet foiled a Hamas terrorist network in the West Bank that planned to abduct a soldier and carry out shooting attacks and IEDs against IDF forces in the Binyamin sector
As part of an activity carried out by the Shin Bet in cooperation with the IDF and the Israel Police, nine Palestinians were detained last month on suspicion of involvement in establishing a Hamas terrorist infrastructure in the village of Bidu in Binyamin.
Their interrogation by the Shin Bet revealed that they were planning an attack to abduct a soldier. In the meantime, the members of the infrastructure armed themselves, prepared explosives and IEDs, drew the escape routes and conducted intelligence gathering patrols in order to learn the routine activities of the soldiers in the Binyamin area, and even prepared a place to hide the abductee. The arrest of the squad members in advance thwarted the abduction.
Their interrogation by the Shin Bet also revealed that the network members planned to carry out shooting and IEDs attacks against IDF forces in the Binyamin sector. In order to realize their intentions, they engaged in self-study of the manufacture of explosives and even set up an improvised laboratory for making explosives inside a residential building.
In the explosives laboratory that was seized and extradited during interrogation by the Shin Bet, raw materials for manufacturing explosives and IEDs, fireworks, pipes used to build IEDs and more were found. In addition, Carlo weapons and maps were seized outlining the planning of the attacks and the escape routes.
In light of the severity of the attack they planned, the network members operated in a compartmentalized manner, while maintaining maximum secrecy in order to avoid exposing their activities.
Two years ago, a significant Hamas infrastructure in the West Bank that planned shooting and IED attacks, including bomb attacks in Israel, was thwarted, some of whose members are residents of Biddu, relatives of the detainees.
Hamas in the West Bank continues to try to destabilize the West Bank with the support and guidance of Hamas headquarters abroad and in Gaza. This blatantly ignores the heavy price paid by the residents of Judea and Samaria and the damage to their fabric of life as a result of their activities.
The infrastructure investigation is ongoing.
The Israel Security Agency, together with the IDF and the Israel Police, will continue to act with greater vigor to thwart any attempt by terrorist elements outside to promote terrorist activity against the State of Israel and to bring those involved to justice.
